Mannum versus Murray Bridge Green

 

Mannum hit the Murray Bridge side very hard right from the start.  They did not want a repeat performance from a few weeks ago.  They were twenty five shots up at the break and maintained the pressure to win on all three rinks by thirty shots.

 

Lynton Jones, John Sage, Trevor Dicker and Maurie Davey added two on the first end and Barry Kirchner, Peter White, Joan Jackson and Mike Ferris hit back with a single and two shots.  Jones replied with four shots and a single and Kirchner then added a single.  Jones hit hard with five shots to lead 12-4 after seven ends.  Kirchner picked up two singles and Jones then added three shots and followed up with five more as they went to the break, 20-6.

 

Jones came out firing and added seven more shots over four ends then Kirchner broke the run with three shots.  Two shots were then scored by each team followed by singles to each team.  The final end went to Kirchner with a single, 30-13.

 

Jerry Pannell, Mike Pethick, Steven Wilkinson and John McDiarmid picked up five shots on the first end and then followed up with three more.  Kurt Weinmann, Graham Rolton, Brian Welch and Kerry Pascoe then won three ends adding six shots.  Singles followed for each team and Pannell then added two singles, two and three shots to jump to a 16-7 lead as they went to the break.

 

Weinmann won the next three ends with singles and Pannell picked up two singles and two shots.  Weinmann came back with three shots and a single and the final two ends went to Pannell with a single and two shots to give him the game 23-14.

 

Stephen Gregory, Di leathers, Graham Leathers and Grant Bormann added two shots on the first end and Peter Shilton, Ken Carter, David Kennedy and Malcolm Carter then added a single.  Gregory picked up a single and Shilton hit back with a single and two shots.  Gregory then added three shots and a single.  Shilton steadied and picked up a single and two twos to take the lead 9-7.  Gregory added two shots as they went to the break.

 

Shilton gained a single and then each team added two shots.  Gregory was able to move the jack around and save on several occasions.  He then scored 2, 4 and 2 to establish a seven shot lead, 19-12.  Shilton came back with two shots and a single but Gregory was able to add two more shots.  The final end went to Shilton with a single, 21-16.

WINTER BOWLS WIND-UP.  The end of a very successful winter bowls series with numbers averaging over 30 each Thursday.   Wizzer Wilson came in equal first with Malcolm Clarke and Beth Maskey was in third place.  Marlene Davies was thanked by Chairman Gary Odgers  for all her hard work in organising and presented with a hand painted glass (donated by Patron Brian Bond)
